The Dawn of a New Age

So, Skyrim arrived, and we haven't posted anything on here because we both took some time to really get into the game. I suppose this could be a first impressions article, but I'm going to try and talk about more than just the start of the game.

So I think everyone will agree the opening to this game was amazing, the whole idea of being put to certain death but being saved by the dragons was something that we had both discussed, and I have to say, when I actually played it, it was better than I could have imagined. I chose a Dark Elf as my race, mostly because they have a good balance between destruction magic and melee combat. I plan on being a heavy armour user, with a sword and a destruction spell as my attacks.I know there are more potent and effective ways of using destruction, but being a Dark Elf, running at people with a fireball in one hand and a bloodstained sword in the other was an image I could not resist.

The Introduction/ Tutorial level was awesome, I really liked the way you could choose to go with Ralof the Stormcloak, or the Imperial soldier. I really like the way the game gives you choices which will impact the rulers of the land, the story is intense, and side quests are a lot more expansive. It was also really nice to see the organizations return, The Dark Brotherhood, Theives Guild and Mages Guild all returned, with what seems to be a Fighters Guild being renamed the Companions? I'm unsure about the Companions though, I've not really dabbled into their story. So story-wise, the game is great, but I'll leave it until I've got further in to talk more about that ( I'm only level 12, doing lots of side quests).

If we look at the game mechanics themselves, its really a brilliant game, the new Menu/ Journal system is great, giving a more fluid menu system, allowing the player to see all his items instead of scrolling through categories. The levelling and perk system is a great, the perks are awesome and expand greatly on the old, general increase in stats, allowing us to maybe put more into one handed combat rather than just increase our blade skill. The graphics are as usual with Bethesda games, amazing, the landscape is beautiful and plays well, I have seen way fewer bugs and glitches in Skyrim than in Oblivion, yes, there are occasional random occurances, but there always is.

So those are just some of my first impressions on Skyrim, expect more content on here soon and if you read all that and understood it all, Well Done!

Feel free to comment with your thoughts.

No Birth Signs

Now this actually disappointed quite a lot. While creating a character on Oblivion, this was one of the key points in deciding what type of path your character will take. You could pick 'Mage' and take a more magicka based path, 'Shadow' for a stealth based path or 'Warrior' for a character that will be in a lot of strength based battles, but now what?

I'm guessing that the point of this is so you change the path your character will take at any point during the game i.e. your character wont have to stick to being a Mage if you start off in that direction. While this will save start and re-starting the game, this will definitely take something away from the character customization seen at the start of the game.

The Return

Hello again friends, we have returned to this blog after a few months. We decided to take a break, for a few reasons, the biggest being there wasn't much new information of reveals of Skyrim since E3. But now we have returned with just over a month to Skyrim's release, so you guys can expect some more posts about Skyrim leading up to the release and after its release we're gonna keep posting. The content will most likely change from rumours and ideas to things like a quest of the week series and discussing the game in general, so if you have any suggestions, thoughts or comments, feel free to send us a message or follow us on Twitter.

Apart from that, I hope everyone is looking forward to the release, and finally,
Goodbye.

Custom Classes? Johnny? Khajits?

There's been a lot more information revealed about Skyrim, we now know that the character building system has been changed, we no longer select Mage, Warrior, Thief etc, instead we change our character as we progress through the story, allowing us to create our own custom class as we go along, something I think will be good as sometimes in Oblivion I wanted to change things about my character like star sign and attributes. It has also been confirmed that dragon attacks will occur randomly, mainly attacking settlements, mostly likely appear as a urgent quest or temporary icon, and after a certain amount of time, if we do not save the village it is destroyed, maybe forever? or until we rebuild it. From several mew images from the game, orcs and khajits have been confirmed as present in the game. More to come.

Johnny, after you turned the planned intervention into an orgy, I think we need to get you away from this house.

Two great new videos have been released showing new gameplay and new information about the tasty sex sandwhich that is Skyrim.

Relationships

The Skyrim developers have recently said that you will be able to have relationships with characters in the game, be it love or hate. I hope this idea broadens into companions, like on Fallout: New Vegas, and people helping you with one off tasks or maybe paying somebody to do a task for you. I imagine if you have a bad relationship with someone that they will ignore, this could possibly prevent you from completing quests.

I think me and you have a healthy relationship Johnny.

Mounts

I've been thinking about mounts in Skyrim, hopefully we start off with a horse, and maybe when we complete the game we can tame a dragon? With penis erect I figured there could be certain advantages and disadvantages to using a horse or dragon.

For example, maybe we can travel at any time when using a horse, whilst forfeiting speed and powerful attacks whilst riding. But if we ride a dragon, we can use the dragon to destroy whoever opposes us, but we can only travel on a dragon during the day, making the player make a very difficult decision.

So Johnny, what are you going to ride?

Magika

I felt the magic was a little underwhelming on Oblivion as that ment sacrafising a good 'ol head chopping sword for a staff but with the dual-wielding option this is no longer a problem. Being albe to have a sword and a staff will give you the option of long range and close range attacks at the same time. This has got me wetter than an elf with a bow up its arse.

Companions

I may have said before, but I really, really, really hope we can get companions in Skyrim, hopefully a mix of humans and the other races and animals, maybe a bear or wolf would be suitable.

Johnny, when I came home last night, you were drunk again, I really think it's time you cut down.

Priest/Holy men/Preachers in Skyrim

In  Oblivion we had a preacher scaring the dearda's testicles out of the people with speak of the apocalypse. This lead to you finding the knights of the nine an have a whole new, and large, side quest to do. I enjoyed this task because it had a better plot towards finding the task rather than talking to someone and they just tell you the task. I hope they make a return to tell you news in Skyrim, even if it is translated into an apocalypse themed speech it would be fun to work out the reality of the task. I think if they also introduced preachers how they were in Assassins Creed aswell, as in they control a lot of the news and take brides not to spread the new of your crimes. This would be helpful if you were to join a murder or thieves guild as it would eliminate the guards suspicion of you.

Oh crap it's a Johnnyova's Witness

Occupations

With the addition of farming and other primary jobs in Skyrim I began to wonder if you could have a steady occupation or income. For instance you could, at first, be collecting wheat from the fields and you could eventually end up running the farm. If you owned or ran a 'business' you would earn a higher income, but you would also have to pay your employees. This could lead to firing employees or sending them on minor quests. I also began to wonder how having an occupation could improve your life in Skyrim. Maybe you could deliver some goods to someone which would lead to a higher speech craft skill with that person or a better reputation in the town/city.

What occupation would do you want Johnny?

I Don't Know What To Title This

On Oblivion if you didn't complete the main quest then oblivion gates would crop up in random places making you want to complete the quest so those little but plug scamps stopped running out and attacking you. I wonder if something like this re-occurs in Skyrim. Whether it be dragons attacking villages or battles in cities, from the civil war. Dragons could be interesting because with farming being introduced then they would ruin your crop, leaving you with a lower income. This interests me quite a bit.

What do you think Johnny, HOLY FUCK. JOHNNY!!! YOUR THE ONE BURNING OUR CROPS??

Accessories

In Oblivion accessories were limited to rings and amulets. I would hope to see a return from these but in more forms. For instance jewellery such as ear rings could improve speech craft because of the comments you could receive about them could be compliments and you could compliment in return. This would give the game a longer playing time as it would take time away from the main quest and side quests.

What accessories do you want Johnny?

Death and Soul selling

In Oblivion, we were able to become a vampire, which granted certain benefits and certain disadvantages to our player, I wonder if in Skyrim we will be able to sell our souls to the Gods in exchange for certain powers or items.

So Johnny, have you ever met death?

Sunday, 13 March 2011

Bandits

In Oblivion, we were sometimes randomly attacked by bandits, highwaymen and the Mythic Dawn, before we completed the main storyline, Maybe in Skyrim creatures are running riot on the roads, with trolls, ogres and manbearpigs holding us hostage? Maybe we can choose to join their petty crime syndicate or inform the guards and earn a reward as a duty to the realm.

What do you think about bandits Johnny?

Guards

As I've stated before, when guards are all up in your grill it's not fun but this could all change in Skyrim. An addition that would very much erect my genitalia would be the ability to persuade guards to let you go, this could be for money, objects or maybe a task for you to do. Obviously the higher your speech craft then the more often you would be able to do it. Guards could also be caught doing this and stripped from their position, you could even see them later as beggars and maybe they blame you and attack you in the street. This could also lead to having a close relationship with guards that could aid you in resources for tasks. You could even become a 'regular' for a guard that will continuously let you off.

We think we've found our first suspect in the latest bribing case.

Collectables In Skyrim

In Oblivion we were given Ninroot Plants to colect, and they were used to make the Explorers Elixir, I hope that in Skyrim they give us something awesome to collect, maybe a stone tablet we have to collect in pieces, and when we collect all the pieces the tablet reveals a nipple hardening secret about Dragonborn and the dragons? Maybe it will unlock a new weapon, a secret location? The possibilities are once again, endless.

So Johnny, howhungry are you for new adventure in Skyrim?

Murder Guilds

I feel that guilds were the best part of Oblivion. They manage to keep you entertained through out the whole of the quests with out it becoming boring, like some longer tasks can be. For me the Dark Brotherhood was the greatest of the guilds. Being able to murder without the guards rubbing your nipple, getting enchanted weapons after each quest and the obvious: being an unstoppable murdering machine, and getting paid for it. The main to point to this post is that the 'murder' guilds on each Elder Scrolls have never been the same in each game. So what will the new guild be called and what new additions will be maid to the guild. Will the guild move out from one secret base so that you have to notice the other members by a certain clothing or weapon? Will you work in groups in some missions? One helps the other kills? With the main quest being about a civil war, will you be called on to eliminate certain political leaders by each sides? Will the guild be harder to get into? Killing one person wasn't exactly hard, now was it?

Or maybe there isn't a murder guild.
What do you think about no murder guilds Johnny?

Will Skyrim ever end?

In Oblivion the final chapter was to go into paradise, and the game basically came to an end. I wonder if this is to be on Skyrim. Will the civil war it would seem there would be no way for the game to end, as side quests would still be available, but with the dragons into the picture a whole new situation is put forth. Dragons bring the 'magic' side to Skyrim, just as the the oblivion gates were to the death of the Emperor. Will the dragons bring an end to Skyrim? Will you become 'one of' the dragons and be feared by the public? Will you take over Skyrim after the kings death, leaving all side quests eliminated? Or will there be no 'real end' to the whole of Skyrim.

Do you know Johnny?

I guess we caught at him at the wrong time.

Addition 3#: Dragons

This is the edition to the Elder Scrolls series that had everyone drooling and it came at the right time. There was no need fro dragons in Oblivion because it was already good enough without it but without dragons Skyrim could have just been an updated Oblivion (not a completely bad thing). The fact that you are dragon born and the mystery that the dragons have in the trailers lead to a mass of directions they could go with this, which we explored in a previous post: link. Theories we didn't include are:

  • Could we find underground cults/races that could help us or know more about the dragons?
  • Are there two main quests? The civil war and a separate involving dragons?
  • Do guilds/brotherhoods/etc hold different rumours or theories about the dragons passed through the years?
  • Will their be a blades-esc society that are dedicated to protect the kingdom from dragons?
  • Does the kings death have anything to do with the coming of the dragons?
  • Will their be a key person that doesn't know what secrets they hold, like Martin in Oblivion?
These will not be answered until the release but what does Johnny think?

Returns? Quest of the Day?

Thinking about starting a Quest of the Day series once Skyrim releases, varying in Quests of the main story, Guild assignments and general side quests.

And also we have been thinking about what we might see return from Oblivion into Skyrim, hopefully we see more guilds, or maybe even the formation and establishment of some as Skyrim is set before the events in Oblivion? A theory that leaves me salivating excessively. Maybe we will see the Blades return?Maybe we fight the Red Dawn once again? The possibilites are endless.

Stay tuned for more Skyrim posts and feel free to comment.

So Johnny, how do you feel about the new Ghost Recon being delayed until next year?

Addition 2#: Sprint

Although this is only a small addition to the game this has made me all the happier. Jumping up and down to go faster on Oblivion was a pain and I failed to see why a sprint button wasn't put onto that game. This addition will help in many ways: following people for a quest, getting to places a lot faster, hunting and, I hope this happens, being chased by a mother fuckin' dragon. All in all this is just a simple, but needed, update that will make Skyrim just that little bit more awesome.

What do you think Johhny?

Society in Skyrim

With Bethesda announcing new skills such as mining, metalwork, farming and most likely more, the idea occurred to em that in Skyrim, we may be able to create our own weapons, which lead me to thinking about our character being able to be a part of the Skyrim society, which would add a great new dynamic to the game, instead of people naturally liking us or not liking us, we can bribe them with natural materials, offer them resources and maybe employ workers to do these things for us, this is assuming our charcater is given some kind of town/ land to do what we wish with, either work the land and be independent, saving money or simply buy everything, being a lazy bastard.

Taliagole.

Addition 1#: Bows

A new feature to the blog that will talk about a new addition/feature to the game and what it will en-tale for the game as a whole.

I know Oblivion had bows but the developers of Skyrim have said that they have improved the power of the bows and have added a small amount of magnetism so that it will be easier to fight in larger battles.

First off the prospect of larger battles is making my body numb and my penis erect. Bows were, sorry to say, lack luster on Oblivion as a sword, axe etc. would always be easier to kill somebody with, even with a high archery skill. The added bow power will hopefully, along with the dual staff and blade/blunt, make people want to increase not only one attack skill, e.g. blade, but want to become an 'ultimate' player in all realms. The addition of the magnetism will be a great factor for the game not only in the quests but in free roam as hunting could be a new addition to pass time in the game, and deer were virtually impossible to kill.

All in all I give this new feature a thumbs up. What do you think Johnny?

"ALLLLLRIIIIIIIIIGGGHHHHHHHHHHT!!!!!"

Companions? Perks? WEREWOLVES?

I've began to wonder if Bethesda will use the Fallout engine, allowing the player to repair weapons, have companions come along with you and aid you in battle aswell as having a unique skill or ability, for exmaple a mage haracter maybe able to enchance your magic attacks, personally i think this would be a great thing for Skyrim as Oblivion lacked your character ever making a freindship or connection with anyone in the game.I also hope that they allow some creatures to be companions, maybe a wolf, bird or dragon will help you, which would be EPIC.

On the subject of perks, I also think this is improve the series, they give the player more options when progressing through the levels and make the character feel more unique.

Werewolves, as you can see from the trailer, and in our analysis of some screenshots from the trailer, there would appear to be some kind of werewolf creature, now maybe they are just something to kill and have no other role, but I can't help wishing that our character will have an encounter with werewolves, and like the vampires in the Dark Brotherhood, we will be given an option to become a Lycan. Maybe they are a secret guild/ society living within the mountains of Skyrim? maybe they are considered pests and we hunt them? The psobilities are literally quite endless, and I'm now going to insert my Oblivion disc and play for many a merry hour.

Feel free to comment with your thoughts.

Points of Interest In The Latest Skyrim Trailer

Below I will post screen shots of the latest trailer and comment on what they show or suggest about the game.

The first shot shows a engraved man being shown either commanding the dragons or being protected by them while the warriors seem to be en-flamed. This suggests that you are possibly a descendant of him or this is a shot of what you can become as you progress through the game.

The second shows two different shows of two towns/cities that look similar but are in opposing colours (One in black and grey the other in white and gold.) This could be a shot of opposing towns during the civil war, one side good the other evil/corrupt?

The next shot shows you/the dragon born after being flamed by the dragon but you seem unharmed. Does being dragon born give you a resistant to the dragons?

The next shots are of creatures that you may confront in the wild/caves/underground. The spider in the last shot was talked about in a recent interview, it is part of a side quest.

The next shot shows you hold a man/woman with a knife at her throat. Does this mean you can hold people at ransom to get what you want or maybe send people to do things for you and in return you don't kill her?

The next show shows the dual staff and sword wielding; this will give you more of a reason to work on both magic and melee stats.

The next, and last, shot is of your character after he's killed a dragon. Do colours spiralling around him signify him gaining experience, levelling up or gaining a new ability as a dragon born?

You can see all these shots in the latest trailer below:

New Theories and New additions to the game

After watching the Gameplay Trailer,  it is revealed to us that Skyrim is in a civil war after the death of the King, and in the aftermath dragons rise bringing evil upon the world of men. Heres a couple of theories we have come up with in our excitement for this game.

1. The possibility of a civil war between dragons not only the humans, seen in the trailer that a dragon does not interveen when faced with " Dragonborn" killing a dragon. An aditional theory is that the dragons do not take sides in the human civil war but have freedom to attack anyone.

2. With the ability of " Dragon Shout" the character may be able to communicate with the dragons, this could lead to us being able to influence them and possibly train/tame or forge an allegiance with the dragons. We also suspect that our character may influence the dragons to be evil or good, maybe we influence them to attack a certain village or defend a city.

3. Also relating to the dragons, is the idea that we can not only side with humans in our civil war but also take sides in their civil war should our previous theories be true. The sides would most likely be good and evil, maybe creating 2 stories in one and have not only humans trying to gain our allegiance but also the dragons seeking our powers as we are " Dragonborn". Maybe our side of the dragon civil war wants us to eliminate the other and use us as a tool.( maybe our choices during each civil war affect lifeafter completing the main story line?)

4. New additions include the sprint ability, dual wielding of a staff and sword, this could mean dual axes, dual daggers etc in the full game. New skills including mining, metalwork and mining and maybe more have been included to hopefully help the character rebuil the landscape and create revenue for him/herself.

Thats our current food for thought, feel free to comment.
